De huwelijksportretten van Maerten Soolmans en Oopjen Coppit zijn de grootste portretten ooit door Rembrandt geschilderd. Ze meten 210 x 135 cm en dateren uit 1634, het jaar dat Rembrandt trouwde met Saskia van Uylenburgh. De beide schilderijen zijnsinds 1877 in het bezit van de familie Rothschild in Frankrijk. Eric Rothschild verkoopt ze in 2015 aan Nederland en Frankrijk voor 160 miljoen e.
Het portret van Maerten blijkt immers een pak meer waard dan dat van Oopjen. Het portret van Maerten zou zo'n 100 miljoen euro waard zijn, dat van Oopjen "slechts" 60 miljoen euro. Dit betekent dat wie 80 miljoen euro op tafel legt voor het portret van de vrouw een slechte zaak doet. Zo heeft Rembrandt enkel het portret van Maerten gesigneerd, wat destijds gebruikelijk was voor portretten die bij elkaar hoorden. Voorts zou het portret van Maerten van beduidend betere kwaliteit zijn en is hij "knapper" afgebeeld. Sommige details op het portret van Oopjen zouden dan weer minder verfijnd zijn. Bovendien is ze "minder knap". "Bij haar zie je gewoon minder het genie van Rembrandt" volgens handelaar in oude meesters Bob Haboldt.

In 1634 hebben ze zich door Rembrandt laten portretteren, levensgroot, staand, ten voeten uit, een stijl, die voorbehouden was aan de hoogste Europese adel. Voor de schilderijen betaalde het echtpaar ƒ 500.
De reden om voor de relatief nieuwe schilder Rembrandt te kiezen is niet bekend. Het is zeer waarschijnlijk dat Rembrandt Maerten die van 1628 tot 1631 in Leiden studeerde, kende; misschien omdat Soolmans in de Nieuwe Hoogstraat, vlakbij het huidigeTrippenhuis woonde, en niet ver de Jodenbreestraat, waar Rembrandt in dienst was van Gerrit Uylenburgh.
