Jan koopt op 4-10-1798 het huis aan de Kerkstraat, later bekend als kadastraal E-95, voor 350 gulden. van Hendrik de Leeuw.
Twee jaar later, op 15 april 1800, koopt Johan Hendrik Kolb (1756-1814) het huis voor 500 gulden. In de transportakte staan twee bepalingen: (a) het huis mag naar de westzijde uitgebreid worden, maar moet altijd op eigen muren dragen en (b) het hui s mag nooit aan de voorkant uitgebouwd worden, opdat het zicht van het huis aan de westzijde niet gehinderd wordt.
