    Toen de weduwe johanna van den Hoven in 1898 stierf, waren inmiddels ook haar drie zwagers aan het Oranjeplein, de bakkers Johannes, Eugenius en Antonius Brands, overleden. Haar schoonzuster Johanna had als 'bakkerin' de zaak nog enige tijd voortge zet en daarna verkocht aan haar nicht Wilhelmina Schoenmakers. Wilhelmina was een dochter van schoenmaker en leerlooier Jasper Schoenmakers die getrouwd was met Johanna's zuster Elisabeth Brands." Een jaar nadat Wilhelmina de bakkerij had overgenom en, was zij getrouwd met de uit Lage Mierde afkomstige Jan Huijbregts. Deze' was nog door Brands als bakkersknecht in dienst genomen en kwam zodoende aan het Oranjeplein in een gespreid bedje. Johanna Brands was na de verkoop in een huisje naast de bakkerszaak gaan wonen.
