Notes about LEENDERT SMIT

Van de begrafenis van Leendert Smit verscheen in de Nieuwe Rott. Crt. van 24 februari 1913 het volgende verslag:
"In tegenwoordigheid van een groot aantal vrienden en belangstellenden is heden op Nieuw Eik en Duinen ter aarde besteld het stoffelijk overschot van de heer L. Smit Jzn., in leven directeur der Stoomboot-Reederij Fop Smit & Co. te Rotterdam. Aanwezig waren o.a. de heer Van de Garde uit Gouda als vertegenwoordiger van de Vereniging van Stoomvaartondernemingen, waarvan de overledene mede-oprichter was. Voorts deputaties van de loges Accacia en Frédéric Royal, beide te Rotterdam, en een deputatie van het Schilderkundig Genootschap "Pulchri Studio", in welke commissies van aankoop van schilderijen de heer Smit zitting had. Twee verpleegsters die de heer Smit gedurende vier maanden met toewijding hebben verpleegd, bewezen mede de laatste eer.
Aan het graf sprak de heer Van de Wetering, commissaris van voornoemde Stoomboot-Reederij. Deze herdacht de grote toewijding door de heer Smit gedurende 25 jaar als directeur van de genoemde Reederij aan de dag gelegd, en het vele dat hij gedurende die tijd had gepresteerd, alsmede de aangename samenwerking die er tussen hem en commissarissen bestond.
Verder voerde nog het woord de heer d'Harvant uit Lobith, die de overledene als vriend herdacht en mede wees op hetgeen hij voor de nijverheid had gedaan.
De schoonzoon van de overledene, de kunstschilder Van Soest, sprak een woord van dank.
Een aantal bloemstukken, o.a. van de Stoomboot-Reederij en van "Pulchri" dekten de kist."
