Notes about Heribert I Graaf Van Vermandois

In 886/898 werd hij graaf van Soissons en abt van Saint-Crépin in Soissons, in 888/889 graaf van Meaux en Madrie, en was in zijn tijd samen met aartsbisschop Fulco van Reims en zijn broer Peppijn, een der leiders van de oppositie tegen de nieuwe koning Odo van Parijs, die in 888-898 de eerste Capetinger op de Franse troon was. Op 28 januari 893, de verjaardag van het overlijden van Karel de Grote, kroonden Herbert, Peppijn en Fulco Karel de Eenvoudige tot tegenkoning. Odo wist echter gaandeweg de aanhangers van Karel voor zich te winnen, ook Herbert zelf, die hiervoor het belangrijke graafschap Vermandois kreeg toegewezen. Vervolgens breidde Herbert zijn gezag uit over Champagne. Zoals Fulco van Reims, werd Herbert gedood in opdracht van Boudewijn II van Vlaanderen
