    Het bataljon was gevormd uit dienstplichtigen van de lichting '47. Na aankomst te Semarang werd het overgebracht naar Pekalongan en ondergebracht bij 2-4 RI en 4-6 RI om te worden ingewerkt. Begin mei 1948 nam het bataljon het vak over van 2-4 RI met o.a. posten te Pekandjangan, Kadjen, Plelen en Soebah. Vanaf september nam de onrust toe en voerde het bataljon met 4-6 RI acties uit naar o.a. Belik en Kadjen waar een belangrijke TNI organisatie (Indonesische Nationale Leger) werd uitgeschakeld.Ook werd er een vooruitgeschoven post gelegerd in Lebakbarang. Na 15 december werd het bataljon geconcentreerd te Pekandjangan en Kedoengwoendi.
    Tijdens de 2e politionele actie volgde het bataljon op 20 december 1948 de T-Brigade tot Kartasoera. Hierna splitste de colonne zich en bezette het op 21 december samen met 4-9 RI Solo, waarna de stad werd doorzocht en gezuiverd. Na enkele dagen werd ook de omgeving gezuiverd. Intussen had 4-9 RI de stad verlaten en had het bataljon de zorg voor geheel Solo. Ook werd het bataljon ingezet bij 4-9 RI te Klaten (2e cie) en bij de opmars van Inf.I.KNIL naar Wonogiri/ Patjitan (3e cie). Op 25 januari 1949 nam het bataljon Wonogiri/Patjitan over van Inf.I.KNIL met o.a. posten te Wonogiri, Djatisrono, Batoeretno en Betal.
    Na een rustig begin namen eind februari de hinderlagen, mineringen en beschietingen door de TNI fors toe. Nadat in maart troepen aan het bataljon waren onttrokken voor deelname aan de acties bij Wonosari (T-Brig) en Biting (A-Div), voerde de TNI enkele felle aanvallen uit op de verzwakte posten. Na terugkeer van de troepen voerde het bataljon een zuivering uit naar Tirtomojo waarbij de TNI aanzienlijk werd verzwakt maar niet uitgeschakeld. Medio april was de TNI de klap weer te boven en namen de beschietingen toe. Vooral de beveiliging van de wegen vroeg veel inzet zodat het bataljon geen mogelijkheid kreeg om het zijterrein goed te zuiveren. Eind maart kreeg het bataljon versterking van 4-5 GRGr (Garde Regiment Grenadiers). Op 14 juni werd deze cie. die in Djatisrono een zeer moeilijke tijd had afgelost en verdeeld. Na het "cease fire" op 11 augustus keerde de rust terug. Op 20 oktober was het Regentschap Wonogiri overgedragen aan de TNI, en werd het bataljon gelegerd bij Blora, Rembang en Tjepoe. De 2e en 3e cie bleven tot 13 november te Solo. Op 16 december werd het bataljon overgebracht naar Soerabaja en belandde eind januari 1950 in Malang. In april vertrok het bataljon naar Batavia om te repatriëren
