    Katherine C. Mouw, age 100, of Sheldon, Iowa who passed away on Friday, May 22, 2020 at the Sanford Sheldon Medical Center in Sheldon, Iowa. Her Graveside Service will be at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, May 28, 2020 at the Roseland Cemetery in Sanborn, Iowa with Rev. Kevin Gingerich ~ officiating.
    Visitation will be from 9:00 – 10:30 A.M. on Thursday, May 28, 2020 at the Vander Ploeg Funeral Home in Sheldon. There will be no family present during this time.
    Due to state and federal guidelines due to COVID-19 there will be a limit of ten people at a time during visitation, practicing social distancing.
    Arrangements are under the care of the Vander Ploeg Funeral Home; Sheldon, Iowa.

    Katherine Cornelia Mouw, the daughter of John and Maria Cornelia (Den Beste) Groot was born on February 6, 1920 in Sheldon, Iowa, where she grew up and attended the Sheldon Christian School. Katherine was united in marriage to John Frank Mouw on March 2, 1944 in Bellflower, California. The couple made their home in California until 1955, when they moved to Ashton, Iowa and began farming. In 1957, they moved to a farm near Little Rock, Iowa. In 1975, they retired and moved into Sheldon, Iowa. John preceded Katherine in death on September 16, 1994. Katherine remained in her home until she passed away on Friday, May 22, 2020 at the Sanford Sheldon Medical Center in Sheldon, Iowa, reaching the age of 100 years, 3 months and 16 days.

    Katherine had attended the Sheldon United Methodist Church and the Parkview Assembly Church. She was an avid reader of the Sioux City Journal and the Sheldon papers.

    Left to cherish Katherine’s memory are her children, Sharon “Sherri” and her husband, James Iedema of Ocheyedan, Iowa; David and his wife, Janet Mouw of Ellsworth, Minnesota and Paul Mouw of Ham Lake, Minnesota; eight grandchildren, Randy Iedema; Dannielle Weg; Jamie Iedema; David Mouw Jr.; Dawn Sybesma; Athena Seely; Kate Dudley and Bethanie Mouw; nineteen great-grandchildren, five great-great-grandchildren, a brother, Marion Groot of Springfield, Missouri and a sister, Dorothy VanderBerg of Soddy Daisy, Tennessee; also other relatives and friends.

    Katherine was preceded in death by her husband, and a brother and sister-in-law, Henry and Shirley Groot.
  • She is buried on May 28, 2020 in Roseland Cemetery, Sanborn, O'Brien County, Iowa, Verenigde Staten.
