Alyda Burgers was born July 30, 1920, to Ring and Winnie (Harskamp) Wallenburg, in Rock Rapids, Iowa. She spent her childhood in the Ireton, Iowa, area.
She married Hans Burgers on Jan. 18, 1945, while Hans was serving in World War II. They were married in the Lebanon (Iowa) Christian Reformed Church. The couple were longtime members of Bethel Christian Reformed Church in Sioux Center.
She was a generous person with a huge heart for everyone she knew. Her passions in life were her husband, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her joy came from taking care of all of them. She also enjoyed spending as much time with her brothers and sisters as she could. She loved to cook and bake and became famous for her potato salad, almond logs and pigs in the blanket. She also loved fishing with Hans every chance she got. After Hans retired, they enjoyed traveling to see Doug in Minnesota or Larry in Branson, Mo. She, however, never did retire, they had to squeeze their trips in between her jobs, but that's how she liked life, busy all the time. She will be missed by all who knew her.
She is survived by her spouse of 63 years, Hans Burgers; her sons, Larry and Cheryl (Motley) of Branson, Mo., and Doug and Alicia (Mouw) of Longville, Minn.; her daughter, Evan and Lynn Van Putten of Sioux Center; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren whom she adored; sisters, Christina Kersbergen and Gertrude Huisman of Rock Valley, Iowa, and Wilma and Albert Van Beek of Artesia, Calif.; brothers, Henry and Everna Wallenburg of Ripon, Calif., and Richard and Minnie Wallenburg of Rock Valley, Iowa; sisters-in-law, Mina Wallenburg of Artesia, Calif., Mabel Wallenburg of Lakewood, Calif., and Trudy Smith of Red Bluff, Calif.; an aunt, Alyda Vande Vegte of Sioux Center; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Carol Ann Burgers in 1952; her parents, Ring and Winnie Wallenburg; an infant sister, Winnie Wallenburg; brothers, Tony, John, Gilbert, Ring and William Wallenburg; and several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
The Burgers family prefers memorials be directed to Sioux Center Christian Schools.
