Jesse Rountree was a soldier of the American Revolution, serving as a private in the company of Captain Evans of the Tenth N.C. Continentals. He also seved as Sheriff of Pitt County 1818 until 1820. Jesse was a very influential man, as he had been a Revolutionary War soldier and was also the sheriff of Pitt County. He also founded the Rountree Christian Church, still active today. This area, bought by John Frizzle in 1771 and by Jesse Rountree in 1789, is now known as Rountree Crossroads.
