He had a relationship with SuSan[ni) MrsJoseph.
Child(ren):
NOT PROVEN, BUT MOST LIKELY, HE IS THE SON OF PAUL HARRELSON AND PATIENCE LEWIS. He may be the son of William Harrelson.
Some databases show Washington District area as the place of his birth, however, it did not exist then. Disctricts were not formed until 1768. There were only Parishes. Washington District, when it was formed, was NOT near present day Marion and/or Camden.(Jo Church Dickerson).
WASHINGTON DISTRICT
(1796 - 1798) created: 1796 to administer the Up County. Covered present day counties of: Greenville, Pickens, Oconee and Anderson. SPLIT in 1798 to form: Pendleton and Greenville Districts, and Washington was discarded as a district name. (From SC GenWeb Page by Victoria Proctor - forwarded by Jo Church Dickerson).
There are notes that William Harrelson and NOT Paul Harrelson is the father of this Joseph. His birthdate would then be 1709.
From the database of Robert and Betty Hawkins Norton:
Josiah Harrelson Sr., b. 1735, Washington District, SC d. bef May 4, 1824, Horry Co., SC
Moses Harrelson b. abt 1740, SC, d. aft 20 Aug 1789, Prince George Parish, SC. n. abt 1765, SC

Joseph Harrelson, Jr, b. 1752, Craven District, SC
Lewis Harrelson b. 1754, SC.
"Per Ernest Harrelson, Jr. Loris, SC. He thinks William Harrelson might be Joseph's father.
Land grant in Craven Co., SC, 200 acres, 4 Aug 1756, and many more. On 14 Sep 1774 he deeded his grant of 200 acres to his son Joseph.
Per his records the children of this William Harrelson are
Joseph Harrelson b. 1709 Craven District; Benjamin L. Harrelson b. abt 1730 d. aft. Mar 02, 1802 in Marion Co., NC. Source Graham FTW.
From "Harralson-Harrelson" Family History and Lineage, 2nd edition, Compiled by Danny K. Haralson -
Vol. 13, Page 5:
He had grants in Craven District SC. One grant of 200 acres dated 14 Sep 1771. (This is the grant he deeded to his son Joseph).
This William Harrelson has a lineage back to the 1600s in Essex, England." These maybe the Joseph Harrelson's of different branches of the Harrelson family.
Thomas L. Cain ((XXXXX@XXXX.XXX)) lists only a Moses Harrelson b. 1765.
Do not know if Josiah, Benjamin, Joseph Jr and Lewis are the sons of Joseph Harrelson b. 1723.
Joseph Harrelson Sr was in Anson Co, NC in 1763 and in Marion County, SC in 1773.
Note: the Joseph above was in Anson Co., NC in 1763 and then Marion Co., SC in 1773.
A William Harrelson deeded land to his son Joseph in 1774.
Dates from the various sources are not consistent.
If this Joseph was a son of William and not of Paul, he would have had a a birth year of abt 1709 and not of abt 1723.
Paul Harrelson had a son William b. abt 1720 and a son Joseph b. abt 1723.
A William Harrelson also had a son Joseph b. 1709 to whom he deeded land.
QUESTION: He married a Native Indian, Su San, presumably before 1735. His parents were supposedly massacred by Indians.- in or about 1754, which is historically not very likely.
SPECULATION: His parents returnred to Virginia after the death of Paul Harrelson's father in 1734 too settle the estate and may not have returned to South Carolina.
