ROGER son and heir of Sir William DE LUMLEY (probably by a daughter ofSir Walter DE AUDRE], on his father's death succeeded to property inLittle Lumley and elsewhere in the bishopric of Durham which hisancestors had held for several generations. In 1259 he granted to Robertde Briminghill and Agnes his wife, and her heirs, the reversion of landsin Coxhow after the death of Juliane, late wife of -Sir Walter Audre,reserving the rights of Walter de Crawmers and Emma his wife, and herheirs. In May 1268 he is described as knight. In 1277 he joined with hisbrother-in-law, John de Roseles, in the proffer of the service of twoparts of a knight's fee for the barony of Morwick, to be performed byJohn in the expedition against Llewelyn, Prince of VVales.
He married Sybil, eldest daughter and coheir of Hugh DE MORWICK. He diedin or before I 279, and was buried in the church of the Franciscans inNewcastle. His widow married Lawrence DE ST. MAUR. She died 26 July1298. [Complete Peerage VIII:266-7, (transcribed by Dave Utzinger)]
