Child(ren):
Eleanor or Ellen, received the manor of Bingley, Yorkshire asmaritagium. [Ancestral Roots]
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Ancestral Roots and Magna Charta Sureties both have Ellen as daughter ofEudo la Zouche and Milicent de Cantelou. Some people on World Connecthave Ellen as daughter of Milicent's 1st husband, John de Mohaut. Inresearching the situation I came up with the following:
While MCS names her straight out as "Ellen la Zouche" and doesn't evenmention John de Mohaut as 1st husband of her mother, Ancestral Roots (inline 38, which is the la Zouche line) lists her as the next generationafter Eudo la Zouche (implying that Eudo was the father, while notingthat Milicent de Cantelou had married John de Mohaut first), but justnames her "Eleanor or Ellen" without a surname (While they almost alwaysgive a surname! Is AR hedging its bets?). AR gives as supportingevidence the following: "(Feudal Aids 6:21,23 refers to 'Elienora deZuche' as holding the manor of Bingley of her mother 'Milisenta de MonteAlto' in 1284-5; Rev. C Moor, Knights of Edward I 2:183-184)." Thatquote leads me to think that Ellen was a daughter of Milicent and John deMonte Alto / Mohaut / Montalt /Montault and was "adopted" by 2nd husbandEudo la Zouche. Her mother Milicent held the manor of Bingley in thename of Monte Alto for her daughter by her first marriage.
Certainly if Ellen held Bingley in 1284-5, she might have been of age(her mother did not die until 1298/99), which means she could have beenborn as early as 1263, which would certainly make her a child of John &Milicent.
