Notes about Joan Burghersh

He married, before September 1342, Joan, daughter of Sir Bartholomew DEBURGHERSH [LORD BURGHERSH], by Elizabeth, daughter and coheir of TheobaldDE VERDON [LORD VERDON]. To her he gave licence to make her will. He dieds.p.m., 15 September 1375. After his death his widow lived much at Court,and had many grants for her good services to the King and Queen. Byarrangements made in 1369, she had acquired the virtual ownership of thenucleus of the Mohun estate in West Somerset, and in 1376 she sold thereversion of it to Dame Elizabeth Luttrell, to the disinherison of herown heirs. She died 4 October 1404, and was buried in CanterburyCathedral. [Complete Peerage IX:23-5, XIV:479, (transcribed by DaveUtzinger)]
