BARONY OF HARINGTON (III) 1363

SIR ROBERT (DE HAVERINGTON), LORD HARINGTON, son and heir, born atGleaston, and baptized 28 March 1356 at Aldingham. He was a ward of theKing, who granted the custody of his lands in England and Ireland to hisdaughter Isabel, afterwards wife of Ingram de Coucy, Earl of Bedford.Having proved his age, he had livery of his lands in England in 1377, andof those in Ireland in 1380, though he had been non-resident during hisminority. On the occasion of the Coronation of Richard II, 16 July 1377,he was ceremonially knighted, being then on the King's service at Calais.He was summoned to Parliament from 4 August 1377 to 21 December 1405, bywrits directed Roberto de Haryngton'. As one of the Lords temporl underthe designation of Le Sire de Haryngton, he swore on the altar of theshrine of St. Edward at Westminster, 30 September 1397, to maintain allstatutes, &c., made in the preceding session of Parliament. His castle ofGleaston appears to have been built before 1389, for it is mentioned inthat year. In 1398 he was pardoned for adhering to Thomas, Duke ofGloucester, in 1386, &c.; and in 1401 he had license from the Pope for aportable altar at oratories within his manors. His marriage was granted,1363, to Richard de Pembrigg, but the grant was surrendered in 1372.

He married, 1stly, about 1376, Alice, da. of William (DE GR.EYSTOKE) LORDGREYSTOKE, by his 2nd wife, Joan, daughter of Sir Henry FITZHENRY,ofRavensworth. She died s.p., soon afterwards. He married, 2ndly, about1383, Isabel, widow of Sir William COGAN, of Huntspill, Somerset, whodied 1382 and daughter and coheir of Sir Nele LORING, K.G., of Chalgrove,Beds, by Margaret, daughter and heir of Ralph Beaupel, of Knowstone,Devon, who died 1386. By this marriage considerable estates in Somerset(Porlock), Devon and Cornwall came to the Haringtons. He and Isabel hiswife made a settlement of the Lancashire estates in 1389.
