Notes about Eleanor Douglas

Eleanor, only sister of 1st Earl of Douglas and widow of Alexander Bruce,1st and last Earl of Carrick of the c1330 creation. [Burke's Peerage, p.2831]

Note: There is some confusion in Burke's Peerage as to Eleanor'sancestry. Pages 2831 & 418 name her "only sister of 1st Earl ofDouglas". Yet page 2325 states that she is an illegitimate daughter ofthe 1st Earl by Margaret Stewart, Countess of Angus in her own right. Ithink her birth date precludes her being daughter of Margaret Stewart.
