Perry cultivated the land with the help of his famil y. The Combest farm produced much fruit, as shown by the following item wh ich appeared in the newspaper on 12 August, 1902:"I want to sell my entire crop of apples as they stand in the orchard 4-1 /2 miles south of Pana and will receive sealed bids up to 3:00pm Saturda y, August 16. There are about 3,800 bearing trees and the crop of apples w ill run from 3,000 to 7,000 bushels.Perry Combest, Pana."
