Conclusive proof of the paternal ancestry of Elias Maverick as furnishedby the record of the suit brought in 1612 by his grandfather, PeterMavericke, clerk, against William Champneys (vide supra, p. 150). He wasat Winnissimet (now Chelsea), Mass., in 1630; was admitted to the churchat Charlestown 9 Feb 1632/3; was made freeman 11 June 1633; and lived atWinnissimet, near his brother Samuel's house, on the westerly part of theMaverick estate (now belonging to the U.S. Governmant). In 1654 he was amember of the Ancient and Honorable Artillery Company. He deposed 15 June1680, aged 75. His will dated 13 Oct 1681, was proved 6 Nov 1684, hisestate being appraised at 820 pounds, 15 shillings. (English Origins ofNew England Families)
