HENRY (FITZHUGH), LORD FITZHUGH, son and heir, aged 23 and more at hisfather's death. On 15 February 1452/3 he had livery of his lands in co.York, the escheator in that county being ordered to take his fealty, andhis lands in cos. Lincoln and Northumberland and his tenements in thecity of York were liberated to him on the same day. He was one of theLords who took the oath of allegiance to Henry VI in the ParliamentaryChamber at Coventry, 11 December 1459. On 22 December following he wasgranted, for his good services against the rebels, the offices ofMaster-Forester and Keeper of the New Forest, Arkengarthdale, and Hope,all co. York, and Steward of the Lordship of Richmond, for life. Heappears to have been but a lukewarm member of the Lancastrian party, andwas suspected of disaffection in January 1460/1. He accompanied Edward IVin his expedition to the North in November 1462. On 10 October 1466 hewas appointed a commissioner to treat concerning peace with Scotland. Hehad licence, 18 February 1467/8, for four years, to go to the HolySepulchre at Jerusalem with twelve other persons. In July 1470 he was theleader of a small insurrection in Yorkshire, which was got up, it issupposed, to divert the King's attention and so enable the Earl ofWarwick to land in the south of England. However intended, it achievedthis purpose, and the King, hurrying northward, forced FitzHugh to takerefuge in Scotland, but granted him a pardon soon afterwards, 7September, a few weeks before his own flight to Holland. Lord FitzHughwas summoned to Parliament from 26 May 1455 to 15 October 1470, by writsdirected Henrico fitz Hugh' militi or chivaler.
He married Alice, daughter of Richard (NEVILLE), EARL OF SALISBURY, byAlice, daughter and heir of Thomas (DE MOUNTAGU), EARL OF SALISBURY. Hedied 8 June 1472. On 1 June 1475 his widow was granted the custody of herlate husband's lands during the minority of his heir. She was living 22November 1503. [Complete Peerage V:428-9, (transcribed by Dave Utzinger)]

Henry Fitz-Hugh, 5th baron, b. 1430, summoned to parliament from 26 May,1455, to 15 October, 1470. His lordshoip obtained, in 38th Henry VI[1460], a grant of the stewardship of the honour of Richmond, and also ofthe office of chief forester of the new forest of Arkilgarth-Dale, and LeHoppe, then escheated to the king by the forfeiture of Richard, Earl ofSalisbury, to hold for life. During the reign of King Henry VI, LordFitz-Hugh remained firmly attached to the Lancastrian interest, but heseems nevertheless to have successfully cultivated the good opinion ofKing Edward IV, the champion of York, for we find his lordship, soonafter the accession of that monarch [1547], employed in his militarycapacity, and as a diplomatist. In 1468 he made a pilgrimage to the HolySepulchre, and upon his return founded a chantry for two priests in hiscastle at Ravenswath, there to celebrate divine service for himself andAlice during their lives, and for the health of their souls after theirdecease. Maud, dau. andco-heir of Sir Thomas Green, Knt., of Horton, and had one son and twodays, viz. 1. William Parr, Marquess of Northampton, d. s. p.; 1. AnneParr, m. to William Herbert, Earl of Pembroke; 2. Catherine Parr, m. 1stto Edward Borough; 2ndly to John Neville, Lord Latimer; 3rdly, to KingHenry VIII; and 4thly, to Thomas, Lord Seymour, of Sudley, but d. s. p.Elizabeth FitzHugh m. 2ndly, Nicholas, Lord Vaux.
