WILLIAM DE MORLEY, son and heir, was appointed in 1288, during pleasure,to the custody of the lands in East Anglia of John d'Auvillers, deceased.In October 1294 he took part in the abortive expedition to Gascony in thecompany of Roger de Mohaut (de Monte Alto) under the Earl of Richmond,and served there again in the campaigns of 1295 and 1296. In 1297 he wassummoned to a military council at Rochester on 8 September, and inNovember he went North in the company of Ralph de Monthermer, Earl ofGloucester and Hertford, to drive back the Scots, who had devastated theborder counties after Wallace's victory at Stirling. He was summoned toParliament from 29 December 1299 to 3 November 1306, by writs directedWillelmo de Morle, whereby he is held to have become LORD MORLEY.
He married, 1stly, Isabel, sister and heir of Robert DE MOHAUT (LORDMOHAUT] (died 1329), brother and heir of Roger Mohaut. He married, 2ndly,before October 1295, Cicely, whose parentage is not known.
