Notes about Ivo de Harcourt of Shenton zzz

Ivo de Harcourt, inherited his father's English lands. [Burke's Peerage]----------------The following is excerpted from a post to SGM, 22 Jun 1997, by Christopher Nash (I am following George Farnham):A broad sample of pedigrees (Burke Ext & Dorm Peerage, George Farnham, Schwennicke, Crouch) shows the descent Ivo/Yves-->Sir Robert (lived 1199,1201,1201, d. ca. 1202)-->Sir William (d. 1223) who m. Alice Noel. Unlike mine, your immediate problem looks to be only: Is the wife of Sir Robert named Isabel or Millicent? The majority of texts give Isabel, and "Millicent" may result from a confusion (possibly deriving only from a scribal error in one pedigree) with the name of her mother.A more long-range problem (for both of us!) is Who is the father of Ivo/Yves?(1) Schwennicke gives Turchetil Seigneur de Tourville de Turqueray et de Turqueville;(2) George F. Farnham ("The Harcourt Family", Leic Arch Soc 15:104-06, drawing on a pedigree in Trans of William Salt Soc 1914) gives William (d. betw. 1141 & 1148; m. Agnes), son of Anchitel de Harcourt (lands in Suss & Leic 1124-29);(3) Burke Ext & Dorm Peerage gives William Ld of Harcourt, Caileville, Beauficel and Stanton-under-Bardon, Leic, son of Robert lived 1100, son of Anchetil, Sire de Harcourt, son of Turchetil, Seigneur de Turqueville and Turquerange (more...)(4) Crouch gives Robert I fitzAnschetil (m. Agnes and d. bef. 1119 [a. 1118]), son of Anschetil.(5) others give further....I can't say exactly "I hope this helps", but I hope it clarifies things abit more!Cris
