    Garn R. Anderson of Vernal died on March 17, surrounded by his family after a courageous battle with cancer.

    Garn was born on March 27, 1943 in Vernal, Utah to Reed and Reva Anderson.

    He graduated from Uintah High School, went to work for the U.S. Forest Service, and then a short time later was drafted into the U.S. Army for two years. He then went back to work at the Forest Service and retired from there after 42 years.

    He married Carolyn Timothy on February 20, 1971, and their marriage was later solemnized in the Provo Temple. After living many years in Dutch John Utah, they moved their family to Vernal.

    Garn was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day-Saints where he held many callings. He served as a service missionary and was a faithful home teacher.

    He was a member of the Roping Club for more than 20 years and served on the board for the Uintah Basin Jr. Livestock Show and Sale for five years.

    Garn loved his family, horses, roping, hunting, fishing and camping. Garn's grandkids knew that their grandpa loved them and he spent many hours leading them around on horseback, reading stories and naps in the recliner.

    Garn is survived by his children; Bruce Anderson, Jana (Daff) Clyde, Jill (Keane) Sheffield, Camie (Trent) Tomlinson, Ali (Jeff) Atwood, and Kristen Anderson, 16 grandchildren, mother; Reva Anderson, and sister; Cheree (Keith) Rasmussen.

    He is preceded in death by his wife Carolyn, son Cody, and father Reed Anderson.

    Funeral services were held Tuesday, March 22 at the Vernal 7th Ward Chapel, with viewings Monday evening and Tuesday before the service at the Vernal Blackburn Mortuary. Burial will be in the Rockpoint Cemetery with military honors by the American Legion and the Utah Army National Guard under the direction of the Vernal Blackburn Mortuary.
