    Dr. Moultrie Hearst Truluck died on April 14, 2010 at Deerfield Retirement Community in Asheville, NC. He was born on October 13, 1914 in Olanta, SC, son of Byron Calhoun and Lillian Lipscomb Truluck.

    In the 1930's, he moved to Asheville with his family. He attended Wake Forest College and graduated from Atlanta Southern Dental College (now Emory University) in 1938, where he presided as president of his freshman dental class. He practiced General Dentistry in Charlotte before opening his office in the Flat Iron Building in downtown Asheville in 1940. He went to University of Michigan in the late 40's to specialize in the new field of Periodontia. For many years he was the only periodontist in WNC and eastern Tennessee.

    He was co-founder of the Buncombe County Dental Society and its first president. In addition, he was elected a fellow of the Academy of International Dentistry, and was a life member of the First District Dental Society, the North Carolina Dental Association, the Southern Academy of Periodontology, and the American Academy of Periodontology, Charter and Life Member of the American Society of Periodontists, Life Member of the North Carolina Society of Periodontists, and a member of XI PSI PHI, Alpha Eta Chapter. He was one of the developers of the Medical-Dental Building on Biltmore Avenue and One Oak Plaza downtown. In 1992, after 54 years of practice, he retired.

    Dr. Truluck was proud of Asheville, especially its growth in the medical fields. He was a board member of Thoms Community Care Partners, a Director of the Southeastern Savings & Loan Company, a Director and Secretary of the Appalachian Savings & Loan Association, Charter Member of the Asheville City Club, a member of the Downtown Club, a member and former Deacon of the First Presbyterian Church, an active member since 1951 of the Biltmore Forest Country Club, and a member of the Rhododendron Royal Brigade of Guards. He enjoyed sports including golf, hunting, horses, boating, and snow skiing. In addition, he was a former president of the Asheville Ski Club, member of the Asheville Power Squadron, and one of the founders of the Biltmore Forest Bridle & Saddle Club.

    But most of all he loved his family and friends. He is survived by: his loving wife, Helen Bright Truluck; his daughter, Sara ; his sons: Alan Truluck , Patrick Truluck , Peter Truluck ; and stepchildren: John Haynes ; Geoffrey Haynes MD, James Ribet, Jr. , Janice Ribet ; five granddaughters, and nine great grandchildren.
