    Marjorie Elena Etheridge Kirk, of Morrilton, died Friday, February 19, 2010, following a brief illness. She was born March 14, 1921. A native of Conway and long time resident of Morrilton, Mrs. Kirk is preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Thurston S. Kirk, her son, Stephen Edgar Kirk, her parents Jubal Early and Ina Clements Etheridge and her brothers, Stanley Clark Etheridge and Jubal Early Etheridge, Jr. She is survived by her son James Thurston Kirk of Phoenix, Arizona, her daughter and son-in-law, Dianna and David Thayer of Hot Springs, and her five grandchildren: John L. Thayer of California, James L. Thayer of Maryland, Amanda Kirk of Georgia, Payton Kirk Taber and Kyle of Morrilton, and Morgan Kirk of Conway, and her great-granddaughter, Marlee Taber of Morrilton. She is also survived by her sisters-in-law, Lois Etheridge of North Little Rock and Margaret Kirk of Texas.
    Mrs. Kirk attended the Arkansas State Teacher's College Training School through eighth grade then graduated from Conway High in 1937. She completed degrees at Central College, Arkansas State Teacher's College and the University of Arkansas. Her long teaching career included Arkansas schools in England, Pleasant Plains, Gould and for 25 years in Morrilton.

    In addition to an active professional life, which was secondary to raising her three children and caring for her own mother, Mrs. Kirk was an active member of First Baptist Church, Morrilton, serving in the choir and as president of the VSP seniors. She also served as president of a number of Morrilton community groups, including Literary Coterie, Delta Kappa Gamma sorority, Northside PTA, and Conway County Retired Teachers.

    Funeral services will be held at First Baptist Church, Morrilton, at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, February 22. A family visitation hour will be held on Sunday February 21, from 3:00-5:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be at Elmwood Cemetery by Harris Funeral Home of Morrilton. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to Conway County Library in Morrilton or the Caring Place for Alzheimer's Care in Hot Springs.
