PETER WYLIE 1717-1795 My great grandfather married Ann Hawthorn They came from County Antrim, Ireland. They with the Kelsos and Mills came over in the same vessel not long before the Revolutionary War. Originally they were from Scotland but went to Ireland during the persecution of the Covenanters. They had three sons and one daughter namely Francis, William, James and Margaret.

WILLIAM WYLIE -- My grandfather, William Wylie, entered the army when very young. He was taken prisoner twice during the war. Once he lay in jail in Winnsboro and another time he lay in Camden jail three months in the winter, part of the time chained to the floor. He was married shortly after the war to my grandmother Isabella Kelso. They had seven children, three sons and four daughters: Peter, Kelso, and John Nixon, Susan, Mary, Sarah and Annie who died very young. My grandfather was a very cheerfully disposed man. My grandmother was of a melancholy temperament, very religious. Her health was delicate, being troubled with asthma. Grandfather was inclined to drink at public places which caused her much uneasiness. My father remembered them with deep respect and with most tender affection for his Mother. They moved to Alabama some years before I was born and Grandma did not live many years after leaving this country. Their children all went with them to Alabama except Pa (Peter Wylie) and Aunt Jennie Walker.

PETER WYLIE -- My father married Annie Evans. Peter Wylie and Annie Evans married Jan. 25, 1810. They had 12 children" Richard Evans Wylie, Isabelle Wylie, DeKalb Wylie, Catherine Wylie, Alexander Pearson Wylie, William Wylie, Hannah Wylie (writer), Susan Wylie, Mary Wylie, and two infants who lived only a few hours.

My dear father Peter Wylie died June having had bad health for several years. He was respected by everyone who knew him. He abominated deceit and falsehood of every kind, but had the greatest regard for truth and sincerity, he was very kind to all in distress and to the poor.

She gave the names of her aunts and uncles and the people they married and the names of her brothers and sisters and the ones they married and their children. One of her brothers was RICHARD EVANS WYLIE, first married to RACHEL McCULLOUGH who died in the Spring of 1858. They had 3 sons JOHN D., PETER WYLIE, and THOMAS WYLIE. All three sons were in the War Between the States. PETER and THOMAS died from war experiences. Richard Evans WYLIE married his second wife MRS.ALICE CRAWFORD in 1864. She was the widow of Martin Phifer Crawford grandson of Maj. Robert Crawford and died in 1875 leaving two small children, TOM WYLIE and MARY EVANS WYLIE.

The following chart is based on the family history of Hannah Wylie, a page of research by Eliza Wylie, the Earl of Donegal Passenger List, Maj. Gen. Samuel W. Crawford letter to his father & findings of Mrs. Rosa B. Guess.
