    rch Alexander Oliver (b. July 15, 1880, d. October 17, 1945)
Arch Alexander Oliver (son of Washington Lafayette Oliver and Safronia Carrie Pursell) was born July 15, 1880 in Obion County, Tn., and died October 17, 1945 in Memphis, Tn.. He married Ethel Campbell on August 02, 1903 in Fulton County, Ky, daughter of Allen Campbell and Elizabeth Elmyra Dalton.

    Notes for Arch Alexander Oliver:
Arch Alexander Oliver, son of W.L. (1849-1887) and Carrie Purcell Oliver (1859-1949), grandson of Allen (1813-1878) and Mary Fowlkes (1825-1854), was born in Obion County, Tennessee, July 15, 1880, and lived most of his lifetime in Fulton County, Kentucky. On August 2, 1903, he married Ethel Campbell (3/25/1882-3/10/1977) daughter of Allen and(2/12/1829-10/10/1903 Elizabeth (Ellie) Elmira Dalton (5/15/1855-3/30/1930), granddaughter of Duncan and Penelope Campbell. Arch met Ethel in Cayce, Ky., a small farming community in Fulton Co. Ky. where they made their home and reared nine children All nine children were baptized at Ebenezer Church and all nine were graduated from Cayce High School.

Arch was a farmer and a logger, and was a great story teller. Many were the hours spent engrossed in fascinating tales about his logging, hunting, and fishing experiences. One of his llifelong secrete desires was one that was never to be, because of his lacking of education and financial backing. He always wanted to be a doctor. So following his true instincts and talents he cared for the sick in his community. Any time someone got sick and needed help or someone to sit, day or night, Arch was there. He was truly a smart man and although he was unable to advance his own education, he and Ethel were determined that all their children finished High School and many of them went on to college and acquired degrees.

Arch was buried in Ebenezer Cemetery at Cayce, Ky. along with his wife Ethel, his father, mother, and grandfather . Arch's Great Grandfather Martin Oliver was one of the first to settle on this land in 1825. The first Society of the Methodist Church in what is now Fulton Co. was organized at Martin Oliver's home just two miles east of Cayce. He donated the ground for a church to be erected and it was called Oliver's Campgroung. In 1889 a new building was built across the road and it was named the Ebenezer Methodist Church and the ground where the old church stood became the Ebenezer Cemetery. For over 100 years Homecoming or Decoration Day has been observed on the first Sunday in June, with "dinner on the ground." The descendants come from several states each year for the occasion.

The little town of Cayce was named for James Hardie Cayce He was born in 1830 in Graves County and moved with his parents to Columbus, Kentucky in 1845. He later became engaged in the business of general merchant and trader. He also established stores in Moscow, Clinton and Cayce. Cayce can rightfully boast of its being the boyhood home of Luther "Casey" Jones, an engineer of railroad and folk-song fame. A bronze historical marker was erected at the intersection of State Highways 94 and 239. The old Cayce High School building still stands on that same corner . Cayce was at one time a very thriving business community and many of the people who live in this area now are descendants of the very early settlers who came here in 1824 to farm the land and raise their families.
