Notes about John Nethery

Thomas Nethery Jr.

Thomas Nethery was born about 1769 probably in Virginia. He died on April 3, 1809 in Knox County, Tennessee. He married Mary Catherine Wells on February 12, 1796 in Lunenburg County, Virginia. Thomas was the son of Thomas Nethery Sr. and one of the first two wives that Thomas Sr. was married to of which we do not know their names.
Children:

(1) Infant Daughter Nethery was born February 18, 1797 and died on the same day.

(2) Samuel Neathery was born February 20, 1798 in Virginia and married Mahala Coker on December 21, 1830 in Knox County, Tennessee.
Information on Samuel Neathery:
The information is only tentative identification based on information now available.
Parents are most likely Thomas Neathery Jr. & Mary Wells.
Apparently married Mahala Coker in Knox County, Tennessee, but either she died or they divorced because he was single when he received a land grant in Liberty County, Texas for service in the Army of Texas.
Received Texas land grant certificate #361 for 2,094.554 varas in Polk County, Texas, and 6,240.281 varas in Liberty County, Texas, Liberty District, File # 87. In the Texas State Archives there is a discharge for Samuel Neathery dated November 18, 1836, from the Army of the Republic of Texas. This document states that Samuel Neathery, " volunteered for the service of Texas on the 7th and was enrolled at Galveston Island on the 18th for a term of six months...served honestly and faithfully...
Said Samuel was born in the state of Virginia, is 39 years of age, 5' 6" high, complexion fair, sandy hair, blue eyes, by occupation before enrollment a tailor.
Muster Roll, page 81 show that Samuel served in Captain Pratt's Company, Volunteers, 1st Regiment, General Green's Brigade from September 1 to October 1, 1836, enrolled May 7, remarks - extra duty hospital steward.
In the General Land Office of Texas the following documents are of record:
Dated October 3, 1839, Liberty County, arrived May 18, 1836, a single man, entitled to 1/3 league of land.
Power-of-Attorney:
Headright Certificate # 361.
November 8, 1845, Samuel Neathery of Liberty County sold headright certificate #361 to John Coulter on July 11th and now authorizes the said Coulter to apply to and receive from the proper office a patent for said land, signed Samuel Neathery.
Field Notes:
Metes and bounds description of the 2205 acres in Liberty County, Texas surveyed June 6, 1851.
Field Notes:
Metes and bounds description of the 371 acres in Polk County, Texas surveyed September 2, 1851.
General Land Office records show the patents of final titles to the surveys in Liberty and Polk Counties were never issued because of a conflict with the already existing surveys. The land office did not fine a land grant file for the relocation of the entitlement. Also recorded in the Texas General Land Office archives are the following documents pertaining to one Samuel Neathery.
Bounty Certificate # 9304.
Dated November 21, 1839, Austin, Texas entitled him to 640 acres of land for service from May 18 to November 18, 1836.
Transfer:
Dated March 25, 1840, Liberty County transferring certificate # 9304 to Augustine B. Hardin, signed Samuel Neathery.
General Land Office records show that the final title to the above 640 acres was issued to Augustine B. Hardin in October 1846.
