    GLASGOW – Joe Edward Combest, 93, of Glasgow, died Sunday, Dec. 28, 2014, at T. J. Samson Community Hospital.

    Born in Rantoul, IL, he was the son of the late William J. and Carrie Holmes Combest. Joe was a farmer and was the county health inspector for Barren County for 32 years. He was a Kentucky Colonel, a charter member of the Barren River Rod and Gun Club and a charter member of Faith United Methodist Church. Joe was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII serving in the Pacific theater of operations.


    Survivors include a son, Jimmy Combest (Jeanette); two daughters, Janet Elliott (Joe) and Judy Morris (Max), all of Glasgow; four grandchildren, Sara McCown (Bobby), Jo Karen Morris, Kelly Hill (Stephen) and Patrick Combest; three great-grandchildren, Cody Walker, Dusty Walker and Tyler McCown; four sisters, Betty Logsdon (Wayne) and Helen Simpson, both of Glasgow and Gladys Murrell and Bessie Willis (Billy), both of Columbia. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

    In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Sarah Elizabeth Bryant Combest; a granddaughter, Judy Walker; a brother, Billy Combest and three sisters, Edna Young, Mildred Thomas and Louise Rogers.

    Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at A. F. Crow & Son Funeral Home and burial with military honors provided by D.A.V. Chapter 20 of Glasgow in Glasgow Municipal Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 4 p.m. Tuesday.
