Ella S. Allen August 31, 1917 - September 9, 2009

Ella S. Allen, age 92 of the Slate Branch community, passed away on Wednesday, September 9, 2009 at T. J. Samson Hospital in Glasgow, KY. She was born on August 31, 1917 in the Poynter Creek community of Pulaski County, the daughter of the late Virgil and Janie Harness. She was a homemaker and member of the Ringgold Baptist Church. She enjoyed gardening, canning, and flowers. Mrs. Allen is survived by a sister, Merley Blevins of Somerset; two grandchildren, Lisa Sloan (and significant other, Mike Schantz) of Highland, IL and Jason Spears of Glasgow, KY; six great grandchildren, Kelsey Sloan, Abby Sloan, Whitney Spears, Curtis Jay Spears, Zachary Schantz, and Michaela Schantz; two daughters-in-law, Billie Spears Wells of Glasgow, KY and Lois Spears Farmer of Somerset; and a host of family and friends. Preceding her in death were her parents; 1st husband, Curtis Spears whom she married in 1940; 2nd husband, John Allen whom she married in 1982; a son, Clay Spears; four brothers, Winfrey Wick, John, Raymond, and William Harness; five sisters, Thelma Waddle, Gracie Waddle, Lucy Perkins, Flora Spears, and Faye Baker. Visitation for Mrs. Allen will be Saturday, September 12th from 5-8 pm at Lake Cumberland Funeral Home, 1046 West Highway 80, Somerset. Funeral service will be Sunday, September 13th at 2:00 pm at the Chapel of Lake Cumberland Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Ringgold Cemetery.
