He seems to have lived the first years of his marriage near Mintonville, but in 1841 bought the land of Samuel Allen, then in 1851 he bought land of his brother Zachariah on Pointer Creek. In 1852 he entered 50 acres of land on the same creek on which he had a beautifully situated home which was a center of hospitality. His neighbors speak of him as a kindly, generous man.
