Carl Blanton April 23, 1918-May 23, 2007 SHELBY — Mr. Carl Blanton, 89, of 2042 Gaffney Road, died Wednesday, May 23, 2007, at home. A native of Cleveland County, Mr. Blanton retired from Hoechst Celanese Corp., where he was a machine operator. He was also a dairy farmer. He was a member of Lavonia Baptist Church, where he was a former choir member, deacon and Sunday school teacher. He graduated from Boiling Springs High School in 1937 and from Gardner-Webb College in 1939. He served in the Army during World War II with the 100th Infantry Co. C 325th Engineers Combat Battalion. He was awarded the American Theater Service Medal, Victory Medal, EAME Service Medal with two Bronze Stars, Good Conduct Medal and the Distinguished Unit Badge. He was a member of the American Legion. The family would like to express their thanks to his nieces, nephews and special friends for their caregiving. His parents, William Cliffton and Cora Jane Royster Blanton; and 12 brothers and sisters preceded him in death. Surviving Mr. Blanton is his wife of 52 years, Lela Hamrick Blanton of the home; daughters, Rhonda Voss and husband, Larry, of Concord and Renee Walker and husband, Randy, of Boiling Springs; sisters, Hannah Deaton and Marjorie Hamilton, both of Boiling Springs; and granddaughter, Carla Ruth-Lytle Hendrix. Visitation: The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at Cleveland Funeral Services and other times at the home. Funeral: Saturday at 2 p.m. at Lavonia Baptist Church Burial: Cleveland Memorial Park Officiated by: The Revs. Robert Lane, Keith Dixon and Buddy Morehead
