But then she [Isabel, younger sister, but Countess of Gloucester] diedonly a few days later and her sister Amice, by now the only one ofWilliam FitzRobert's daughters still living, seems to have beenrecognised as Countess of Gloucester till her own death some seven and ahalf years later. On the other hand Amice's son Gilbert de Clare, Earlof Hertford or of Clare (usually called the latter), was apparentlyacknowledged as Earl of Gloucester in addition to his other dignity fromas soon as the month after his aunt Isabel's death back in 1217. He [Richard de Clare] married Amice, 2nd daughter and coheir and eventually sole heir of William (FITZROBERT), EARL OF GLOUCESTER, byHawise, daughter of Robert (DE BEAUMONT), EARL OF LEICESTER. They appearto have been separated (perhaps pending a dispensation) prior to 1200. Hedied between 30 October and 28 November 1217.
