SHELBY Mrs. Gladys McSwain Kelly, 85, of Century Care, formerly of Lily Street, went to her heavenly home, which she had long awaited, on Monday, Nov. 21, 2005, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.Born in Cherokee County, S.C., Mrs. Kelly retired after more than 50 years as a self-employed seamstress. She was a member of Putnam Memorial Baptist Church. She was a loving mother and grandmother who loved working in her yard, especially with her flowers, and the many friends she made during her years as a seamstress. She was a giving person, always doing special things for friends and neighbors. She always wanted to help the ones less fortunate than she and did so without any recognition.She was preceded in death by her husband, J. D. Kelly; parents, H. K. and Lizzie Fulton McSwain; brothers, Kinard, Wylie, Buster, Claude and Rodgers; and sisters, Flora Evans and Emma Dixon.She is survived by a son, Buster Kelly and wife, Lynn, of Shelby; daughter, Sandy Blanton and husband, Jack, of Polkville; sisters, Clidie Kayler of Gastonia, Theo Dellinger of Cherryville and Maude Whistnant and husband, Albert, of Polkville; three grandchildren, Melissa Kelly, Jason Mode and Casey Mode; and two great-grandchildren, Jacob Mode and Caleb Mode.The funeral is today at 3 at Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Allen Davis officiating. Burial is in Sunset Cemetery.
