The following is a letter that Marcus wrote to his son John Alton about the death of his Mother, Sadie Aldredge:

Feb 15, 1907
Dear Alton your Mother got Sick on the Tuesday night Feb 5, 1907 but was up all day Wednesday. she had the Disentary Wednesday and Wedneday night ( Feb 6 I had Dr Arline of Cairo with her Thursday AM at 4 o'clock I had Dr Kincaid wiht her and again Thursday evenng and Dr Kincaid was over 3 times a day until she died on Saturday after she was taken I have Dr. Walker o Cairo and Dr. ???spil of Thomasville to meet Dr. Kincaid out their to hold a consultation over her and Dr. Bowshill was back Sunday and Monday and he said Monday that she was better but Dr. Kincaid did not thing so and on Wednesday before she died I had Dr. Walker to come back to see her and on Thursday also and Dr. Kincaid was coming 2 and 3 times a day he was there when she comminced Dying at 9:30 o'clock Thursday P.M. and I laid until about 2 o'clock. She died at 3:36 o'clock Friday A.M.
The Drs thought that the grik was the Suntur of coarse she had other troubles in connection with it. She had Grafill Trouble. She had passed a Stone it was larger than a large butter bean. ????lie (Sadie) was borned June 4 in the year 1888 and died Feb 13th in 1907. She was 8 years and 8 months 11 days old. We married Dec 6, in the year of 1905. You was borned Sept 25th, in 1906.
