George fought a dual with Thomas Burnside of Columbia Co., at Ft. Mitchell, across the Chatahoochee River, and Burnside was killed on the third charge. In the last will and testiment of Burnside dated 1-14-1828, proved 4-21-1828, Columbia Co., he stated "Being about to have a contest of a sanguinary nature, with a man whom I have never sought a quarrel of any sort..."
