    Graveside services for Betty Kittrell White, 87, of Tyler, will be held on Saturday, Oct. 18, 2014, at 10:30 a.m. in Rose Hill Cemetery in Tyler with the Rev. Stephanie Hughes officiating under the direction of Stewart Family Funeral Home.Mrs. White passed away on Thursday, Oct. 16, 2014, in Tyler.Elizabeth Jane "Betty" Kittrell White was born April 25, 1927, in Dallas to Olga Gracey and Edwin N. Kittrell. The family soon moved to Tyler with Kittrell Lumber Company.After graduating from Tyler High School, Betty attended Chevy Chase Junior College in Washington, D.C., and later transferred to The University of Texas <http://www.legacy.com/memorial-sites/university-of-texas/?personid=172838273&affiliateID=1744> in Austin, where she majored in journalism and was a member of Pi Beta Phi Fraternity. She enjoyed six summers at Camp Waldemar and playing golf. She later won the Trans-Mississippi Amateur Golf Tournament in Florida.Betty was active in the Texas Rose Festival. She served as trainbearer for Queen Dorothy Bell, and was a lady-in-waiting to Queens Carolyn Revere and Mary Ann Nenney. She served as coronation chairman in 1970. She also represented Tyler as a duchess in Buccaneer Days in Corpus Christi, the Beaumont River Festival and The Battle of Flowers Parade in San Antonio.As a published writer, she wrote two children's books, "Around the States on Roller Skates," "My Friend Boogie" and a humorous book for adults, "Alcoholics are Numerous!" While living in Hollywood, California, she also wrote for various entertainers including Lucille Ball, Carol Burnett and Johnny Carson.Betty lived in Dallas and moved back to Tyler several years ago.She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Edwin N. Kittrell Jr.; and her husband, Earl White.She is survived by her nephews, Edwin N. Kittrell III, Scott R. Kittrell, Stephen B. Kittrell and their children.The family expresses great appreciation for caregiver Laverne Green.Memorials may be made to Marvin United Methodist Church, 300 W. Erwin St., Tyler, 75702; or Tyler Day Nursery, 2901 W. Gentry Parkway, Tyler 75702.
