{Scenario #1 on the life of two "David Pressly's"}
*From The Pressly Family by William L. Pressly
"David Presslywas born in Scotland and sailed from Ireland to America in
1734 and lived inKingstree, South Carolina until 1751, when he with his
brother, John, moved northwestward into the Abbeville of 96 District.
There he "gained a competence" and returned to Charleston. Presumably,
he died and is buried in Charleston. His wife was Esther, whose last
name is unknown, but who was aged 40 years in 1767. The date of birth of
David is not known to the writer. They hadthe following children;
Samuel, David, John, William, Agnes, Maryanne, and Esther. Samuel was
the father of Rev. John S. Pressly, John was an ancestor of Rev. Leon
Pressly, and William was the father of Judge Ben C. Pressly, of the South
Carolina Supreme Court."
An email from Tom and Emily Pressly, dated10/4/2000 shows a completely
different scenario for the life of David Pressly.
It reads as follows:
"We were fortunate enough to visit with W.L. Pressly in Due West in 1982,
and discussed his findings. He acknowledged some errors along our line
of Presslys: however, no one seems quite sure the three brothers, David,
John and William, who immigrated to America in 1734 are kin to David who
arrived on the Earl of Hillsborough with his family in February 1767{I
will call this David for clarity "David Sr."}
We know that David, Sr., was born in Glasgow, Scotland in 1731 and died
January 15th 1785, in Charleston, S.C. He brought with him these
children: Samuel, David, and Agnes who were all born in Scotland. The
son, David, we will call David, Jr. There were other children as well
who we supposed were born in the USA: Ester, John, William and
Maryanne. Samuel married Elizabeth Thompson and was the father of Rev.
John S. Pressly; David, Jr. married Anne Edmiston, November 16, 1784 in
Abbeville; Agnes married Henry Wylie; Ester remained single and died
November 28, 1848 at 80 years of age; John whose wife is unknown is the
father o fRichard Pressly; William married Eliza Adams, daughter of
David Adams, on December 15, 1804; and Maryanne married Stephen Thomas.
David, Jr. is our ancestor. We found his grave in the abandoned
Generosetee cemetery outside of Ira, SC, which is right outside of Due
West, SC. His wife Anne and sister Ester are also buried there, and both
died in November 1848. David, Jr. died May 11, 1834.
As far as the immigrant David, and his brothers, who arrived in 1734, we
know no more."
Sincerely,
Tom and Emily Pressly (XXXXX@XXXX.XXX)
So regarding the two scenario's above, It seems that both David Presslys
could be the same person? or kin to each other?
