Lillian Ruth McKeown was born in Snyder, and spent her childhood inJacksonville, Brenham, and San Marcos, Texas. Lillian Ruth was a goodstudent who loved to read. After graduating from Jacksonville HighSchool, she attended business school in Dallas. Until the birth of herfirst child, she was employed as an office worker in Orange.
The following engagement announcement appeared in an area newspaperin 1950: "The engagement of Lillian Ruth McKeown, to L. H. Sandefer,Jr. , son of Mr. and Mrs. L. H. Sandefer, Sr., of Sugartown, Louisiana,is announced today by the bride-elect's parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. G.McKeown. The wedding date has been set for May 5."
L.H. and Lillian Ruth made their home in Orange. They were membersof First Baptist Church in Orange, where Lillian Ruth taught SundaySchool and Vacation Bible School. She played piano and was an excellentseamstress and cook. Undoubtedly, one of her greatest accomplishmentswas the loving and faithful attention she gave her parents in their lateryears. Though she had diabetes and had been successfully treated forbreast cancer, she died at home of an apparent heart attack in Septemberof 2001.
