Carothers with a daughter, appeared in Texas by 1859 with the following marriage announcement in the YORKVILLE ENQUIRER, York County, South Carolina, on October 6, 1859: In Williamson Co., Texas, at the residence of the bride's father, by Rev. W.M. Overstreet, Mr. A.S. Mason and Miss Maggie daughter of Col. S.D. Carothers (per YORK SOUTH CAROLINA, NEWSPAPER MARRIAGE AND DEATH NOTICES, 1823 - 1865 by Brent H. Holcomb, 1981, p.68). There is no mention of the bride's mother. It has been verified that Alphaeus S. Mason and Margaret J. Carothers were married on September 15, 1859, in Williamson County, Texas (M.B. 1, license #318).
