the 16th of March and found my sister and the rest of my
Friends well - Before I left Charlestown I Received
A letter from you Requesting me to [fill?] the particulars of

[only?] young Johnnie Nealy of which is no Great Grief in the
famly [Family?] - I have wrote you to send the tools that I

send them as soon as Receive this if not sent before this comes
to hand - I wish you to send them Mr. John Crows Book Binder,

carpenter Informs me he is coming home this ensuing Spring he

an answer to this (for I have great calls) so as to know who
might have the colt when you write direct to me to Jamesville
post office Sumter District to the care of Mr David Hopper

going home in march he is a gentleman and it would be a great

Dear Brother and Sister
I was glad to Receive an Act [Account?] from you on
february 2, 1818 - but sorry to be informed of the Deaths which took
place in your family, since the Last account I had from you - but such Deaths
and such Crosses that Generally teaks [takes?] place while in this world we are
not to Grieve too much when they come from the Heart of Providence -
were we to meet with no Crosses nor Disappointments we are too apt to
forget our selves - Dear Brother I am sure James was a promising Boy
and was by Aperance [appearance?] when I left that Such as you wrote to
me he was Belove [beloved ?] by Every one home [who?] knew him - you
mentioned of him Dying in tweve [twelve?] days Sickness I think the saim
[same?] feavour [fever?] prevailed in this Country as
with you it has been verry [very?] mortal hear [here?] Nombers [Numbers?] have
been swept off in Eleven or Twelve days sickness and in a General way All
the helthiest [healthiest?] and strongest in our Country - in Burnally at
war time there was 22 Dying at war time all of the feavour [fever?] - it

I am well at present and Expects these few lines will

letter Dated August 23-1819 I Re January 1820 I was happy to hear of you
All being well at that time-- your friends are All well at present hear [ here?]
___ I have Nothing verry [very?] particular at present to Communicate to you
at present this Contry [Country?] is verry [very?] Dull at presant [present?]
on account of Scarcity of money Occasioned by Sloping of trade
which is a General Complaint through all the three Kingdoms and I may with
safely say throu [through?] all the Known World----Only South Carolina wher
[where?] you Dwell____you have reason to be thankful you live in the land of
Canan [Canaan?] flowing with milk and Honey____and a great plentings [ plenty?]
of money _____Which I think you /you have Every Reason to be thank [ thankful

when people gets in the way of prosperity they are apt to forget the wise
Conducter of all our affairs in this world ____but I hope thus is not the
case with you _____you mention of having a second plantation and a House

Cherry and wife and daughter is still living in Loment and Doeis [ Does? ]

have built a neat set of office Houses in 1813 and last year I built a neat

Dear Brother and Sister
I am well at present so is all you friends
thanks be to God for all the mercies we Daily Receive from his
Bountiful hand - I Re.d [received?] a letter from you some time a goe [ago?]
which I was verry [very?] [De-ira--?] to hear from - Dear Brother I said
Some time a goe [ago?] but when recolecting [recolecting?] I received none.
Since you Rot [wrote?] me of James and Jeans Death if you wrot [wrote?] [one?]
the [they?] have been mif [miss?] caried for I have Re'd [received?] none.
Since that I writ [write?] yearly to you [Let?] you Receive them or not - you
wish me to Inform you whither [whether?] William Robinson's family Ever Expects
to Go the America or not I think the [they?] neaver [never?] will.
Wm [William?] Robinson is not much Calculated to Go a broad he is to [too?]
fond for Company keeping and [one?] to a [derise?] a family home has such a
Head over them to go to a Strang [strange?] contry [country?] it would be not
be a proper Advise So I think home is best for Such a man I have nothing verry
[very?] particular to Communicate to you at all present - I have built a

it and Ever Since I came Home I believe I Let you Know of Robert Neely having
sold his part of Burnally that is the Lower Quarter to Joseph Scott Belymecran
for 750 pounds he had verry [very?] Littel [little?] to Left when he went a way
he is Gon [gone?] to America too [two?] years a Go ther [there?] he has been
no word from him as yet he is some place in the Heart of Pensylvania in what
Empoy [employ?] I no [know?] not I know not who [what?] Employment would fit
him he Drank the whole prise [price?] of his Quarter of Burnally as for George
Neely he got himself in Debt and went of [off?] to America November was a year
and Deserved his plase [place?] to be left to the Debt would be paid be

an Excellent Caracter [Character?] I am well convinced in Ceas [case?] of him
Going to your place that you might watch for his conduct in what eaver [ever?]
Capacity might turn up he wishes you to inform him how he might be Imployed

Dear Brother and Sister
I now taek [take?] the liberty of Informing you of my
being well at present thanks be to the Great Giver of all
our mercies which we are Daily Enjoyin [Enjoying?] from his bountiful
hand I have nothing verry [very?] particular to Comunicate [Communicate?]
to you A [at?] present _ Unly [Only?] thus that of my (Sister Marey Death)
on the first of Martch [March?] last She was unly [only?] ailing too
[two?] or three weeks previous to Disalution [Dissolution?] which is
the Greatest loss Ever Come my way _ but such lossis [losses?] we must

Dear Brother 1835
I imbrace [embrace?] this opertunity [opportunity?] of letting you
know that I am in a good steat [state?] of health at present
and in hopes you are so likewis [likewise?]. I have nothing
verry [very?] particular to comunicate [communicate?] to you at presant
[present?]. the only thing worth of comunicating [communicating?] to you is the purchis [purchase?] I have made of your farm which you held in
Burnally. I have the whole of the [--------?] which
my Father held with six Akers [acres?] I purchased from
Wm [William?] Neely. the property I now have in Burnally
I would not Give for all the Hundred Akers [acres?] you
have gottin [gotten?]in South Carolina that is Counting the
Buildings and Improvements I have made since I
come home. I understand it is to be a General
[----?] thrive out the United Steats [States?] to Liberate the
Neagroes [Negroes?] which surely will be a [---?] threat to you

He is buried in Bethel Cemetery which is at Bethel Presbyterian Church which is on highway # 557 toward Charlotte NC Soldier in American Revolution. There is a monument erected in honor of him outside the wall of Bethel Presbyterian Church (close to Clover SC)

Online list of graves at this cemetery [http://ns1.rfci.net/wdfloyd/BethelP.html] has a marker listing a "Samuel Neely" with an age at death as 81y,7m,27d and his death on 8 Jan 1841. This would make his birth year as 1760, if this is his grave stone.????

A Dr. James Neely is listed along in the online list with this family as well as two infants. They could be in the same grave site.????

This church was organized in 1764 by one of his descendants, a Mr. Moore of Washington DC
