Died in Wilcox Co., Ala., March 23rd, Mr. Solomon Smith in the 56th
year of age. ... three of [his] children were taken in quick
succession last Fall. ...[he] experienced the trials and privations
connected with the first settlements of Ala. His youth was passed in
frontier life, and as a consequence, under influences adverse to
piety. It was not until after his alliance in marriage to one of the
families of Lebanon, that his religious convictions were matured."
