Betty Kittrell, wife of WP Kittrell, my dad's cousin, believesthat WP Kittrell & Nancy Atkins are believed to have come to TNaround 1820. He bought land in Monroe Co, TN. Mrs. MinnieBonner Kittrell Branch believed that William Pleasant was theson of John Kitttrell and Eliabeth Smith. His children werelisted on one Census Record as Jonathan, John Rosey, Samuel.She states the following: John and Samuel seems to belong hereas John's children. I believe your Pleasant William was theirbrother (John and Samuel) but so far have not been able toprove it. She continues: In 1786 census shows John andElizabeth had 6 boys and 1 girl (names were not listed in the1700 records). The property was transferred to Jonathan andJohn, but signed by Samuel and William. Usually the oldest soninherits the properlty and takes care of the others. JohnKittrell was the son of Capt. Jonathan Kittrell, esp. ofGranville Co, NC (received a grant there in 1761). He marriedElizabeth Bryant (Briant, English spelling). They hadnine children: one son named Isham Kittrell had a son namedSolomon Alston Kittrell. Mrs. Branch makes the followingnote:Your Solomon Kittrell may have been named for this Solomon. Shegoes on this seems to help place Pleasant William as a closeKittrell. Bill and I visited Kittrell, NC, several years beforehe died. We visited a family gravesite which had graves forKittrells, Williams, Blackness, and Pleasants. They were eitherrelated in some way or were very close neighbors and friends.Mrs. Branch thinks they were friends and named children foreach other. Thus, William (for Williams) Pleasant Kittrell.Since no proof can be found that a Kittrell married a Pleasant,I have always accepted this to be the beginning of the name. Myson, William Pleasant Kittrell, was named for Bill's fatherwhose name was the same. He would be the sixth generation withthis name. One generation was skipped. This one was myhusband's generation. His father named him William HenryKittrell. His father had a cousin in MonroeCounty named William Pleasant Kittrell. Their mail was known tobe mixed up. After Bill and I were married, we received thisMonroe County William Pleasant's bank statement on time. Thesame bank was used by Bill's father and this man, whichaccounted for the mix-up. I'm sure Bill's father and the MonroeCounty William Pleasant felt it was time to skip a generation.My son William Pleasant named his first son William HenryKittrel,of course, after his grandfather. From Granville, NC,wills Feb 1846 Loretta, Tabitha, Eugenia E. and John Wm.Kittrell, orphan chidlren of Wm. Kittrell, dec in acct withMartha B. Kittrell guardian lists property owned by chidren recDec 1845: negroes, cash and charges wards for board, hirestheir negores on her plantation. 1840 census has the followingKittrells: Greene CO, AL: P. W. Kittrell; Madison Parish,LA:William J. Kittrell; Lauderdale, CO, MS:Nathaniel Kittrell;Gates Co, NC, Yelpha Kittrell; Pitt CO, NC, Clova Kittrell;
