Notes about Marie Lavina ELENBAAS

Marie L. Meenk, of Lynden, went home to her Lord and Savior on Monday, October 11, 2010 at the age of 100.

She was born August 25, 1910 in Granger, Washington, to Martin and Hilligje "Allie" (Haveman) Elenbaas. On Sept. 5, 1933, Marie was married to Jacob Meenk in Zillah, WA and they moved to Whatcom County where they purchased land and raised their son, Bill.

Marie received her BA and Masters in Education degrees in Bellingham; teaching in Bellingham and for many years at Lynden Christian. With many interests, her hobbies included bird watching, pottery, gardening, photography, traveling, playing cards, crossword puzzles, books and puzzles.

For a number of years, Marie and Jake wintered in Arizona.
Preceded in death by her husband, Jake.

Marie is survived by her son, Bill, and wife, Judy; grandsons, Tim (Jean) Meenk, John and Robert Meenk; great-grandchildren James (Robyn) Meenk and Amanda Meenk; great-great-grandsons Zachary, Jacob and Ethan; and numerous other relatives.

Visitation hours are scheduled Friday, October 15, 5 to 7 pm at Gillies Funeral Home. Graveside services will be conducted Saturday, October 16, 1:30 p.m. at Monumenta Cemetery followed by a 2 p.m. memorial service at Bethel Christian Reformed Church, 1105 Liberty St., Lynden with Pastor John Van Schepen officiating.
