Notes about Willem I Frederik van Oranje-Nassau

Koning Willem I Frederik, geboren als Willem Frederik Prins van Oranje-Nassau (Den Haag, 24 augustus 1772 – Berlijn, 12 december 1843) was de eerste koning van Nederland uit het huis Oranje-Nassau.
Na de nederlaag van Napoleon in de Slag bij Leipzig in 1813 werd hij ingehuldigd als 'Soeverein Vorst' der Verenigde Nederlanden. Op 16 maart 1815 riep hij zichzelf uit tot koning der Verenigde Nederlanden en hertog van Luxemburg. In hetzelfde jaar werd op het Congres van Wenen door de Europese mogenheden besloten om het hertogdom Luxemburg te promoveren tot groothertogdom, Willem I te erkennen als eerste groothertog en werd de koningstitel en de titel van Hertog van Limburg bevestigd. Hiermee was de kersverse Nederlandse monarchie binnen Europa formeel erkend en fungeerde als buffer voor zowel Frankrijk als Engeland. Na de troonsafstand in 1840 noemde Willem I zich koning Willem Frederik, graaf van Nassau.
In Duitsland was Willem I van 1803 tot 1806 "Fürst" (vorst) van het Vorstendom Nassau-Oranje-Fulda. In 1806 en in de periode 1813-1815 was hij tevens vorst van het Vorstendom Nassau-Oranje.
