Notes about Gerardus Jacobus Vuurens

His mother died when he was a baby. His father remarried when he was 4 and he had another 4 step-siblings. Apparently he did not live his entire youth with his father and stepmother

Civil Registration in Bussum:
Born in Amsterdam
3 dec 1887 moved to Bussum (10 years old!).
6 apr 1890 moved to Gramsbergen (7 March 1890 according to civil registration in Gramsbergen)
The head of the family was Bart Beunders and his wife Johanna Wilhelmina Beunders Huitker. They appear to be a foster family because they take in many children for short periods of time. Gerardus Jacobus is the 20th child on the list.

On 23 dec 1894 the colonial reserves ask for a certificate of good behavior for Gerrardus Jacobus because he is signing up for the reserves in Nijmegen:
To the municipality of Grambergen:
"Verzoek om een bewijs van goed gedrag van Gerrardus Jacobus Vuurens, geboren te Amsterdam op 02-04-1877, hij heeft van begin 1889 tot april 1891 ten huize van onderwijzer Beunders gewoond en heeft zich nu aangemeld als vrijwilliger bij de koloniale reserve te Nijmegen"

I am not sure what happened to the KNIL application, but he did not go on a 6 year stint in the colonial army, but Civil Registry in Coevorden lists him arriving there from Zutphen on 30 November 1896. He lived in a group home.

He got married on 16 February 1899. The wedding registry in Coevorden in 1899 says he was living in Gouda at the time. On 24 August 1899 he and his wife moved to Vianen (Source civil registry Coevorden). His profession was listed as goldsmith.

He sold gold and silverwares in Coevorden (near Gramsbergen). this business was declared bankrupt on 3 january 1900 (source newspaper: Schiedamsche Courant, January 8 1900; pg. 2). At this time he was a "gas manufacturer" in Vianen. Also in Het nieuws van den dag : kleine courant January 8 1900; pg. 10. Also De Dordrechtsche Courant, 8 January 1900 pg. 3.

In the civil registration of Coevorden we find that his wife Berendina Hemmes (listed as wife of G.J. Vuurens) moved in with her brother Jan Hemmes and his wife Fenna Hendrika Bennink on 18 May 1900. She came from Vianen. She moved on to Amsterdam on 17 June 1900.
