Notes about Hendrik Vuurens

Hendrik was shipper and in the winter of 1923 his ship named "Vertrouwen" got stuck in the ice at the town of Elburg for an extended period of time (Elburger Courant December 19, 1923). The people in the town provided food, but this episode caused a significant financial burden that the boat had to be sold. The children, Cornelia and Teuntje (Truus) then took up positions serving in households.

Hendrik and his wife were excellent "schoonrijders" figure skaters. (This story based on a conversation with Cornelia's daughter Aafje on November 10, 2013)
