Notes about Johannes Jacobus "Hannes" van der Horst

Zoon van Jacobus van der Horst en Cornelia den Boer. Getrouwd 3 juli 1873 Langerak.
Hannes werd geboren als 6e kind.
Hannes werkte o.a. als opperman, later werkzaam in het kaaspakhuis Stuurman te Schoonhoven. Hannes woonde eerst op de Oude Singel. Naast het huis was een logement gevestigd. Er woonden allemaal bedelaars en dronkelappen. Men werd 's avonds laat dikwijls wakker als die lui de trap op stommelden. In 1913 verhuisde het gezin naar de Havenstraat. Het was een huis met een blauw geverfde vloer. Geld om zeil, een kleed of een mat te kopen was er niet. Als moeder naar haar werkhuis ging moesten de kinderen de vloer boenen. Later ging men wonen in de Jacoba van Beierenstraat 8. Hannes begon daar in de voorste woonkamer een eigen kruidenierswinkeltje. Buiten de stad bracht hij de boodschappen per fiets rond, binnen Schoonhoven deed hij dit met een handkar. Ook bracht hij bladen rond.
