Opmerkelijk is dat hij voor de geboorte van Cornelis (november 1705) gescheiden zou zijn van
Grietje. In 1712 wordt er echter een dochter gedoopt van hem en Gritie van
Oostrum (ongetwijfeld dezelfde). In tegenstelling tot de zoons, wordt zij
katholiek gedoopt.

Mogelijk speelde hierbij de relatie met de familie van Grietje een rol. Het eerste kind is geboren tussen de ondertrouw en de trouw. De bruid was dus hoogzwanger Zowel dat als het feit dat Oth katholiek was en de famile van Grietje protestant kan daarop van invloed zijn geweest.
