The area around Limburg castle on the river Vesdre / Weser originally belonged
to the County of Liège / Luik. When Count Frederic II became Duke of
Lower-Lorraine in 1046 he gave Walram I who was Count of Arlon (near
Luxembourg) the title of Count of Limburg as well. Walram I was related to the
Duke in the 5th degree, and he was the father of Walram II, who married the
Duke's daughter Jutta.
