a. Piezewiet is een Vlaams woord, dat piemel betekent;

b. In Oud-Zevenaar woonde aan de Babberichseweg Dorus Verhoeven samen met zijn vrouw. Dorus stierf vroeg. Zijn twee zoons bleven vrijgezel. Dorus broer Nol, ook een vrijgezel, was erbij ingetrouwd, zoals ze dat vroeger noemden. De Verhoevens waren krenterig (ook wel zeikerig in het Oud-Zevenaars dialect). Dat verklaart de naam piesewiet. Waarschijnlijk hebben ze die naam te danken aan Dorus’ vrouw. Zij was erg zuinig. In de oorlog brandde ze haver met boter. Dat zette ze voor het raam om het af te laten koelen, waarna ze er koffie van trok.

c. Mij werd de naam van Verhoeven-Gerritsen genoemd als vrouw van Dorus, maar ik lees in stukken dat Dorus was getrouwd met Maria Antonette Eggenhuizen.

d. In Zaenderse Praot van A tot Z lees ik: ‘ een eigenwie:ze piezewiet’. Men geeft als betekenis een eigenwijze kerel. Ik ga voor betekenis b. Die is ook veel logischer.
