Hij was in 1762 commandeur Groenland voor een reder uit Amsterdam. Op 15-3-1765 wordt hij tot f 2000,- gegoed. Hij is van 1762-1780 koopvaardijschipper. Hij voer van Amsterdam op de Middellandse zee oa in 1766 naar Civita Vechio (akte 18-9-1766). (zie P. Dekker, West Friesland oud en nieuw 1981, blz 155). Hij was schipper op de "Voorzichtigheid" 70 lasten (najaar 1762), de "Jan Jacob", 106 lasten (1766, 1767 en 1768) en op de "St. Antonio", 90 lasten (1773, 1777 en 1780).
